When you have your first baby, you are besotted-in-love, the going is wonderful but hard for a while and eventually you find your groove. Then comes baby no 2. Once again you are besotted-in-love, the going is wonderful but hard for a while and eventually you find your groove. Depending on a variety of factors this may be repeated as many times as required/desired but eventually the last one takes you through that process.
Somewhere around age 3-4-5 with the last baby, you realise the brain that’s been baby-fried and AWOL for “?” number of years, has returned to you. It may have bits missing and be in a somewhat different shape but it does come home.
And then there are grandbabies.
Minding these precious bundles has given me a newfound respect for what I used to do, and what so many of YOU are doing day in, day out without respite.
As a mum… babies, toddlers, feeding, sleeping, in and out the car, crying, spewing, laughing, kissing, cooking, schooling, shopping, exhaustion and demands on every side… even when you have a ‘rest’, your brain is still AWOL, you are still on duty, you are still on alert, still at the mercy of routines and hormones and heart strings that yank on you.
So for the mums still in the midst of all that… you really are awesome. You really are doing an amazing job. You really will get through the day and many more as frustrating but you really are worth your weight in gold. It’s a hard hard job and don’t be belittled into believing it’s not. It’s also a wonderful WONDERFUL job and don’t be belittled into believing it’s not that either.
Not for one single second.
