From Offence to Fragrance

I’m not much of an outdoorsy person nor much of a pet/animals person so spending time on an uncles farm as a kid had very clear boundaries of interest/tolerance to me. I was always happy to go see cousins but one of the main functions of the farm was the pig shed which to me had an aromatic ‘do not cross this line’ force-field around it which I neverevereverever could pass though. Even eating bacon (which I love) beyond a certain thickness has associative memories of steak-thick bacon at breakfast on the farm = pig shed smell/bacon origins, that I cannot cross to this day.

Table Travellers – Week 6

Taryn writes: Over the last few days we read the book of Esther because we knew that Thursday this week is the celebration of Purim. The Jewish calendar is different to ours but the Bible does sometimes give us dates of certain events which can be figured out! Purim which is when God helped Queen Esther free her people from Haman’s evil plan to wipe out all the Jews. Esther is one of my favourite books of the Bible because her bravery is so inspiring!

Trumpet sounds

When I was a young teen, the topic of the second coming/the rapture/the tribulation/end of days was a hot and common topic in the church. It does still come up, but much less than years ago and mostly I think viewed with suspicion and there-goes-a-fruit-loop-ism these days. Suspicion is good if it makes you look for Bible truth, and so is there-goes-a-fruit-loop-ism for the same reason, but mostly I think it’s I’m-havening-a-nice-life-don’t-interrupt-me-ism or maybe a case of no-one-ever-told-me-Jesus-is-coming-back-ism. Or maybe fear.

Overview of the Feasts of Israel (that have little to do with food!)

Just a little over a year ago I barely had even as much as a surface knowledge of the 7 Feasts of Israel. I had never given a moments thought to the few times I had noticed a specific month named in the Bible – they are in a different language (!!!) so had never bothered to wonder when these mentioned things happened in our frame of reference… but all this changed and my fascination with these subjects has brought depth and dimension to my life in ways I could never have imagined.
