The Winter Project – Prelude

Summer has just turned the page; autumn is a lovely read – but the march of winter cometh and it depresseth me. ‘The Winter Project’ is at attempt to learn and incorporate the ideas of winter lovers, or those with experience of much harsher conditions into my own home and outlook. Some friends sent me ideas last winter, and the year before – such simple ideas can make such a difference. The favourite ideas so far revolve around fairy lights and scented candles. And so – the preparations begin. If you have ideas for me – please send them!

  1. We have ducted heating and no fireplace so no central place to snuggle for cozy-making purposes. Which leads me to an idea… see – you’re helping already!
  2. The main living space of our house is quite dark – which is great for keeping it cooler in summer, and also great for lighting fairy lights during the days in the winter months.
  3. I already wear thermals, layers, hats and boots from the time it hits about 19 degrees. Well maybe not the thermals just then… point being it’s not really about keeping warmer – but keeping spirits up.

Please tell my why you love winter – if you do. Not just that you love it – but why. I want to change my perspective not haggle over a preference πŸ™‚ so help me see it through your eyes!

This weekend we’re taking down the fairy lights that have been up since Christmas… I’ve assembled a heap of jars and I’m going to fill them with the lights on a shelf in the kitchen. Not sure about the collection as yet – we’ll see how that goes.

I also found a little ceramic bottle which I’ve popped some grapefruit oil into and hung from the mirror in my car. Van. Yes, I still drive a van. And I love it. I first noticed a similar bottle in my friend Julie’s car – hers is cuter – but this is colourful. I think perhaps the grapefruit might be a better summer smell – so we’ll see about that too.

Something I am sure I love is this bottle of twinkles. The lights can be found very cheaply on ebay. I got these for about $1.50 πŸ™‚
