Once upon a time a little 9 year old girl folded her heart full of hope into a tiny piece of paper with her name written on it, to go into a draw for the most desired prize she’d ever heard of. With every fold, her heart was pleading ‘please, please’ to be one of two from the class able to travel with the relief teacher to visit their much adored year 3 teacher at the hospital with her brand new baby.

Sometimes people or situations teach you what you don’t want to be, and sometimes they show you exactly what you DO want to be.
Visiting a friend years ago, we were in his empty church where we commented on some of the placement of the high-backed chairs dotted throughout the rest of the regular. They were for some of the elderly in the church who were extremely specific about the placement of their chairs every week – and that was one of my “I don’t want to be like that” kinds of moments.

When you have your first baby, you are besotted-in-love, the going is wonderful but hard for a while and eventually you find your groove. Then comes baby no 2. Once again you are besotted-in-love, the going is wonderful but hard for a while and eventually you find your groove. Depending on a variety of factors this may be repeated as many times as required/desired but eventually the last one takes you through that process.

It DOES happen so fast!!! When I was a brand new mum it used to so get up my nose when older mums told me to cherish it as it would go by so fast… the remark STILL gets up my nose – the way I am made IS to cherish it – never needed to be told it – I have so loved these years of mothering and newborn is still my favourite stage.
