“TIMES 12 CLUB” JULY focus

The “Times Twelve club” is a collective of people reading the chapter of Proverbs that corresponds to that days date – thereby reading the whole book 12 times in the year with a suggested ‘focus lens’ to read through to squash thoughts of familiarity making it an already ‘known’ book – starting 1st of every month. Would you like to join in with others doing just that?

Scripture is absolutely peppered with metaphors- as is the way that we speak, so much so that we hardly even notice them in conversation… but we can also miss them for other reasons. If you didn’t know what pepper was, you would completely miss the metaphor in this paragraph.

This month, be on the lookout for metaphors and illustrations. Notice them. Mark them. Think on them. Investigate them. Imagine them.

Consider the illustration itself and consider how it might deepen the understanding of the scripture.

Our metaphors can by pretty haphazard. God’s are sharp and pointed like arrow tips – plus His metaphors are consistent across the whole of Scripture.

A sacrificial lamb is always going to show us something of Jesus.

Yeast is always going to illustrate sin.

Honey will always about sweetness though the point may be for satiety or temptation.

You get the idea right?

Some chapters only have 4-5. Other chapters have at least one per verse so maybe look for at least one that tweaks your interest or curiosity, ask the Bringer of Wisdom to teach you – and see and see where you go.

Love to read what bubbles up for you. 😁

Hint: The focus lens is meant to help you read differently and let familiar words go to new places. If you’re thinking more about how to use the focus prompt more than the Scripture itself then it’s a distraction rather than a help.
