She sashayed down the aisle

I first saw her 25 years ago when she sashayed down the aisle of the airplane in a white (and what I learned later was her favourite, Maggie Shepherd) dress. (Yes I really used the word ‘sashayed’). We chatted at the layover and then again in the lobby of the hotel where we were all staying. Several years my senior, belief systems poles apart, different lifestyles and backgrounds but somehow an instant connection.

I learned her dress was a Maggie Shepherd because as we shopped on holiday she learned I sewed and when we returned home I sewed for her, copying that dress many times over and making much more besides. We lunched and shopped and talked till the cows came home but having babies took my life in a different direction and it became a Christmas card thing for the following years.

A month ago I got one of her distinctive handwritten letters in the post and today we caught up for probably only the second time in 22 years. It was wonderful. The same connection still there. Such a comfortable and happy day.

Her card in the mail was a specific answer to a specific prayer.  Another one of the moments in life when I’ve wanted to be sure it’s Him and not me.

Love when He does that… like He a pats me on the shoulder and says ‘see, I was listening’.
